25-27 May, Building with Earthbags. Domes and arches. Hands-on’, led by Jarema.

29-31, May, Clay and Straw. Clay plastering, sculpting, clay paints, straw/clay as insulation, making 1cm thin partition walls. ‘Hands on’, led by Jarema

29th May -1st June Earthbags. Building a root cellar, learning to build earthen dome structures for emergency and sustainable living. Building an arch and a very small dome made out of earth filled bags, and plastering/sculpting the dome with an earthen plaster. Hands-on and some theory. Taught by Paulina, Cost 160 GBP

2nd June, Clay Plastering. Plastering and sculpting with clay on an earthbag dome.

2-3-4 July, Straw bale workshop with Earthbag foundations.  Straw bale wall raising will include how to divide straw bales, learning which straw is good for building with, fixing the wall to the foundation, stabilizing the bale walls, making a straw bale wall plate, first layers of plaster. 

6-7-8 July, Clay plastering Workshops, the only workshop this season on how to plaster a straw bale wall.  The workshop will include: theory, how to recognize clay, how to prepare clay plaster, three layers of  earthen plaster, preparation of wheat paste for stabilizing the final layer, sculpting, making a truth window, painting with clay paint, and light straw clay insulation. 
 

Food: free vegetarian lunches. 

Accommodation: There is a loft space or a camping field available for free.

16-17-18 July, Earthen Plasters. The workshop will include:  how to recognize clay, how to prepare clay plaster, two layers of  earthen plaster, preparation of wheat paste for stabilizing the final layer, sculpting, painting with clay paint, and light straw clay insulation, Hands-on and some theory. Taught by Paulina & Jarema. 
 
Food: free vegetarian lunches. 

Accommodation: There is a space in a barn or a camping field available for free. 

Price:  one 3-day July workshop 120Euro, two workshops 200Euro.

Przelomka, Poland

The site is located on a beautiful hilly meadow, with forests and lakes.


Existing on site structures include an unfinished post and beam straw bale house, a small Earthbag dome and a straw bale shelter.

7 - 9 August, Earthen Plasters. Plastering, sculpting and carving earthen plasters. All the plastering workshop participants are invited to stay on as volunteers for more plastering/sculpting/carving experience.

Accommodation:

A camping field with very basic facilities is available for free.

Tourist accommodation is available 1km away.

Please note: The price of the August workshops do not include food and accommodation.

Workshops cost

Unless otherwise stated workshops cost:

40 Euro for a 1-day workshop
75 Euro for a 2-day workshop
105 Euro for a 3-day workshop
130 Euro for a 4-day workshop
150 Euro for a 5-day workshop

Meals: Meals are not included, but can be prepared by volunteers for the whole group. Vegetarian food preferred.

Language: All workshops can be taught in both Polish and English.

Stay longer
After the workshops there is a possibility to gain further experience through volunteering for a few days.

Make yourself at home
Camping facilities available but bring your own tent. Hot tub, open forests and rivers or lakes nearby. Children and family pets welcome.
